South Darenth 3-3 HALLS AFC (11s)
Our 3rd game of the season saw us take a short trip to Heathside sports ground, to play a very solid South Darenth team who had made a comfortable start to the season.
South Darenth took hold of the game in the early stages with their striker finding alot of space in between the midfield and the defence which was causing us alot of problems. However we always make a slow start in all of our games so we was finding our way into the game. With South Darenth scoring early on in the game we needed to wake up and fast and we did, Taylan found himself through on goal shortly after through some neat and tidy football played by the Halls boys and looped the ball over the on rushing keeper to level the game up at 1-1.
Halls boys found confidence in this goal and calmed the game down with some good football but just not finding the final pass that would cut open South Darenth for a chance on goal. A routine goal kick that was miss kicked by Thomas T fell straight to their striker who initially got blocked off by Louis and Harvey, but the South Darenth winger picked up the scraps and finished in the empty net 2-1 South Darenth.
We found ourselves having to come back from a goal down AGAIN after battling back last week from 2-1 down to rescue the game 4-2 v Hayden. So this was not an unusual experience for the Halls boys who all have strong character to battle back into games. The last 10 minutes of the first half was scrappy. Taylan who was closing down the South Darenth defenders all game, finally won the ball high up the pitch jinxed inside and struck a thunder bolt straight into the top corner. Brilliant goal and just what we needed before half time. 2-2!!
Team talk at half time was simply don’t let them turn and press the ball higher up the pitch to back up Taylan, who showed through his goal that putting defenders under pressure forces mistakes. We controlled the early stages of the second half and didn’t allow South Darenth any time on the ball and were playing the ball wide and getting in some good positions. South Darenth’s only threat in the half was through a few corners other than that Halls controlled the game and kept pushing forward. Half way through the half we get our first corner taken by Sam who whipped it in low and hard causing problems for South Darenth defence who didn’t deal with the ball and Louis pounced on it and stuck it away with a swing of his leg, not sure he knew much about it!! 3-2 Halls with 10 minutes to go.
We was still controlling the game and putting pressure on for a fourth goal playing our way through their midfield only to be tackled in the final third on a few occasions.
South Darenth worked the way up the pitch through some throw ins down the line and worked their way into our final third of the pitch. A few miss kicks and rushed clearances gave South Darenth a chance to put the ball into the box and it was their striker who we had kept quiet for the whole second half who tapped in their equaliser.
Gutted for the boys who tried to play football when given the chance and deserved more from the game. We need to defend better to get better results and simple mistakes cost us the game but we keep making improvements every week and that’s the main aim at the moment being new to the 9-a-side game.
Taylan received MOTM for his two great finishes for his two goals.
