Week 8 (Sat 19th) started with an away trip to Forest Hill Park for the First Team, who were looking to make it 5 out of 5 and continue their great start to the season. Some delays in getting to the match in South London hampered the preparation for the lads along with a practical bare 11 squad... Covill made the trip to be the number 12, despite his injury and gave the boys some reassurance on the day! Nice one Josh!
All that said, we started very strong. We had Forest Hill on the back foot for the majority of the half, especially early on with 5 great chances to hit the net. 3 crosses from Rocket, and 2 free-kicks, saw us pepper the Forest Hill goal but no real conviction when it counted.
Forest Hill hit the cross bar before the break but we knew we should of had a lead in this match but happily took the half-time at 0-0. Forest Hill came out with a lot more purpose in the second half and started bright, forcing a save from Raymundo in the Halls goal after just 3 minutes. Again, the 11 on the pitch in Blue rallied round and soaked up all the pressure Forest Hill could throw at us, and midway through the half it paid off. A free-kick just outside the box, delivered by Dave Stevens, ricocheted to Christon Sookoo inside the box, and 1-0 HALLS.
Lovely! And another lead for the lads to hold. And hold we did. Deji was fantastic leading the front line again for the team, and was Bradley and Rocket in particular, working their socks off to keep the team moving forward. Rocket, out of position at right back made some excellent blocks and tackles alongside skipper Steve Vanstone and the in form Lee Wright.
The game finished 1-0 Halls with a very deserved Man of the Match for Russell Allen.

And now to LAST WEEKEND...
Week 9 brought us another weekend of cup matches, and up first was the Halls First Team heading away to Malgo.
And for the first time this season, we took a 0-1 deficit into half-time. A Malgo goal came after a mix-up in defence saw a gifted opportunity to the Red's striker. We hadn't been quite our usual self in this half, and now we really had to dig in.
Missing last season's top goal-scorer Lakey, and this season's leading man, Deji, we really had to push ourselves forward and use the ball a lot better in the opposition half. And within 5 minutes of the re-start, Bradley Marshall vollied one from just outside the box....high and like a rocket into the roof of the net!! Boom!! And 1-1. Great goal.
We missed a series of efforts late on in the half to take this game, and spent the last 20 minutes totally camped in the Malgo half. We was lacking a little fire-power, but we were on top and comfortable. Billy Judd made his return to the First Team with a second-half substitute appearance, and the game headed into extra-time.
Malgo had the ball in the net after the re-re-start, but disallowed through a hand-ball decision from the Assistant Referee, we knew we had a let off there... We continued to pass the ball and take the game to Malgo, with Rocket an ever-present threat down the right, we used him very well today back in his familiar wing role.
But no break through come, and the game went to PENALTIES.
Bradley stepped up first and smashed the ball high into the corner of the net. 1-0. Malgo then missed their opening kick. Skipper Steve Vanstone then cooly converted into the bottom corner. Clean as you like! 2-0. Malgo then scored, and Ray was unlucky not to have got more on it. 2-1. Liam Williams then stepped up and smashed his kick straight in, again, hitting the side netting. 3-1 Malgo then missed again, high and over the bar!! Leaving it to Christon for our 4th pen to seal the win. Low and hard, and we hit the net. 4 out of 4.
And a Halls win, and 100% for the team so far this season. Man of the Match: Russell Allen (again!)
ELSEWHERE, the Under 13's also continued their 100% start to the season, and the Halls Under 8s got their first win of the campaign with a 2-1 win against Phoenix. Well done boys!!
