Game 1 Halls 3 Phoenix Jaguars 4
Scorers: Alfie Wilkins, Ben Aldred, Joe Vicary ... Ref: Ben Tinkler
After the goal line clearence of Alfie's goal bound effort, the debutant made no mistake with his next attempt to give the blues a deserved equalizer before the break to justify his expensive transfer from Heath ( a 4 finger kit-kat off the burger stall) Two mad minutes early in the second half saw the hosts fall 3-1 behind despite some excellent football. But the home side never gave up and a great finish from the tireless Ben Aldred brought the blues back into the game. Martin Austin was commanding in goal and pulled off some wonderful saves and proved his braveness with a great stop at the feet of 2 on rushing jag strikers. Captain Zack Manning lead by example from the back and partnered by the ever improving Ben James (despite carrying an injury) the blues pushed for the deserved equalizer. But the jags countered to take a 2 goal lead again.
With time against the home side a late wonder strike from Joe Vicary who was partnered in midfield with Charlie Sells who seems to get better and better ( and has a new trick every week) made the last few minutes very edgy for the visitors. With the blues on one final attack the virgin referee Ben Tinkler blew up for full time. A good performance but a disappointing result. Managers comment: I was really pleased with our performance and feel we deserved something from the game. I was really pleased for our new player Alfie and his link up play with Ben looks very promising. Our midfield of Charlie, Joe and Alfie worked tirelessly and not only created chances for our striker but worked back really well.
Ben and Zack along with Martin are going to be as good a defence you will see all season despite conceding 4 today. Well done boys look at the performance not the result lots and lots of positives.
